Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in August 2004 decreased to 791 companies as opposed to 794 in the previous month.

Four companies were listed this month with total capitalization of LE 176.41 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in August 2004 amounted to 23 days with total value traded of LE 3,536.96 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,635.41 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 99.91%, 0.02% and 0.07% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 901.55 million, which represents 25% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to July 2004, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,673.01 million, of which shares represented 99.95%, bonds 0.05% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 262.26 million i.e. 14% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 1,935.27 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 146.82 million securities.

During August 2004, 140,463 transactions were concluded with an average of 6,107 trades per day, as opposed to 117,654 transactions and an average of 5,883 trades per day in July 2004.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, witnessed a 11.11% increase in August to reach 1752.45 points and witnessed a 110.66% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 10.41% increase in August, to close at 190.09 points on 31/8/2004, and a 106.92% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 58.56% of the total volume of shares traded and 65.53% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of August, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Unigrain (+205%), ASEC For Cement Co. (+85%), International Co. For Investment And Trade (+55%), Torah Cement (+36%), Misr Fertilizers (+33%), National Cement (+30%), Ameriyah Cement (+30%), Egypt Aluminum (+29%), Egyptian American Bank (EAB) (+28%) and Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) (+28%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) aic (-21%), Alexandria Commercial & Maritime Bank (-17%), Egyptian Media Production City (-16%), Egyptian Electrical Cables (-13%), South Valley Cement (-12%), Nile Matches (-12%), Egyptian Contracting (Mokhtar Ibrahim) (-12%), El Nasr Clothes & Textiles (Kabo) (-11%), Amoun (-10%) and Misr Oils & Soap (-10%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 191.03 billion as of end of July 2004 compared to LE 182.09 billion in July 2004, representing a 4.9% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.35 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.66 billion for government bonds at the end of August 2004.

Foreign Participation

In August, foreign investors participated with 36% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 93.15 million.
