Cairo And Alexandria Stock Exchanges Introduces New Sectors Classification Standard And Twelve Sector Indices

Date 06/09/2007

In its continuous efforts to upgrade its services to market participants as well as harmonize with international capital markets, CASE has re-classified all its listed companies into 17 new sectors, instead of the current 22 sectors, effective 4 September 2007.

The determination of the new 17 sectors by CASE aims at providing the investing public with a classification of the listed companies on the basis of homogeneous characteristics that relate to the companies’ economic activities and main business revenues. CASE new sector classification was undertaken after extensive review and analysis of various global classification methodologies for the past six months.

In parallel, CASE has launched for the first time its sector indices, which comprises twelve indices tracking the different sectors of the Egyptian market and helping investors make better-informed investment decisions.

CASE sector indices include: Banks, Basic Resources, Chemicals, Construction and Materials, Food and Beverage, Financial Services Excluding Banks, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals, Industrial Goods, Services and Automobiles, Personal and Household Products, Real Estate, Telecommunications, Travel and Leisure.
