Cairn Energy Rejoins FTSE 100

Date 07/09/2005

FTSE Group, the global index provider, has confirmed today that Cairn Energy will re-enter the FTSE 100 after a six month absence, at close of business on Friday 16th September. The oil & gas exploration and production company first entered the index a year ago. Joining Cairn in the UK blue chip index is the online gaming giant Partygaming, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in June.

These entries mean Hays and Emap fall out of the FTSE 100 into the FTSE 250. Three new UK listings also join the mid cap index – Inmarsat, RHM and Mapeley, while Aberdeen Asset Management, Ashtead Group, Gyrus Group and Insight Foundation Property Trust join the FTSE 250 from the FTSE Small Cap.

Mid Cap stocks losing their place in the index and falling into the FTSE Small Cap are Whatman, Kingston Communications, Beazley Group, Kier Group, Evolution Group, Enterprise, Xansa and Securities Trust of Scotland.
