The ball starts rolling on the new market segment EventPLUS at Börse Berlin with the listing of 36 sport certificates. In buying these products at Börse Berlin investors can bet on results of German Soccer League games. The inclusion of further “event-related financial instruments“ from the realms of sport and climate is planned.
In order to secure high quality of the certificates and maximum investor protection, the new market segment was incorporated in the Regulated Market (regulierter Markt). The Regulated Market is the high-quality segment at German exchanges with regard to listing requirements and follow-up obligations. Thus Börse Berlin is the first exchange in Germany that has used the investor protection potential of the European financial markets directive MiFID for the primary market. “With the EventPLUS segment we offer risk-conscious investors a high quality setting within the Regulated Market that is legally compliant and MiFID-compliant. We create a level of investor protection for event-related securities that is so far unequalled” says Dr. Jörg Walter, Board member of Börse Berlin AG.
The newly introduced sport certificates on the course of the German Soccer League are issued by Ex-tra Sportwetten AG, Vienna. From Thursday on investors may trade 36 champion- or position certificates of their favourite club via Börse Berlin. The disbursement of the sport certificates depends on the club’s position on the league table at the end of the season. During the season it may vary, just as the price of the certificates.
