BVMF Has Just Launched A New Financial Education Program For Children

Date 28/05/2010

BM&FBOVESPA has just launched the Exchange’s Turma da Bolsa Program – the first financial education program designed especially for children. With the addition of this project the scope of the Market Popularization Program, which was launched in 2002, now reaches a full range of audiences including women, teenagers, college students and the general public.

This initiative seeks to stimulate children to learn basic financial concepts through a specially developed web portal for kids (ages 7-10).

The website www.turmadabolsa.com.br is divided into thematic areas, such as games, comic books, fables, entertainment and a page designated exclusively for parents and teachers. The main attraction of the website is its video section, which will present an introductory series consisting of ten episodes. All of the website content has been expertly crafted by a group of top consultants who specialize in elementary education.

It should be noted that this financial education program will reach thousands of children on television by way of a partnership between BM&FBOVESPA and the Roberto Marinho Foundation. The first episode of the introductory video series entitled “O Porco e o Magro” has already aired on the Futura TV Channel, and the full season will be shown over a period of time during its daily programming. After all of the episodes have been broadcast, they will be included in the Exchange’s Turma da Bolsa Program website.

The story line of “O Porco e o Magro” follows the main character Magro who is quite confused about how to organize his own budget until he decides to follow the didactic instructions provided by Porco, the financial education expert. All ends well with Magro developing a series of healthy financial habits.

During the second semester of 2010, in continuation of the partnership between BM&FBOVESPA and the Roberto Marinho Foundation, the Exchange will launch its first financial education program geared to middle school students. This program will also be broadcast by the Futura TV Channel, where participating students will have an opportunity to take part in an interactive competition, with a dynamic format designed to stimulate the development of logical reasoning and the creation of strategies for financial problem solving.
