Bursa Malaysia’s Flagship Palm And Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition (POC2025) - 36th Edition Timely Amidst Shifting Global Trade Flows

Date 19/02/2025

Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia Derivatives”) will host the 36th edition of its Palm & Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition (“POC2025”) from 24 to 26 February 2025 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Recognised globally as a key event in the edible oils sector’s calendar, POC2025 will once again bring together industry leaders, market experts, stakeholders, analysts, and policymakers from around the world to discuss current trends and challenges shaping the industry.

Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad said, “For nearly four decades, our palm oil conference has remained a sought-after avenue for industry players and market participants to discuss ideas and explore forward-thinking strategies that can drive industry growth."

“Despite market movements and trade flow dynamics, POC remains steady as the go-to industry knowledge and business-matching platform. Participation increases each year, and this edition has already seen more than 10% rise in pre-registrations,” he elaborated.

POC2025 is expected to welcome over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries. The three-day conference will be officiated by YB Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani, the Minister of Plantation and Commodities of Malaysia.

This year’s programme will cover a broad range of topics, including supply-demand dynamics, pricing strategies, as well as the impact of macroeconomic and geopolitical factors on trade flows. Discussions will also explore sustainability and regulatory aspects, along with the growing influence of biodiesel and oleochemicals in the market. In addition, participants will gain insights to how innovation advancements are transforming the industry.

The upcoming edition of the flagship event will continue to feature a distinguished lineup of speakers — global industry experts and influential decision-makers. Sought after industry thought leaders such as Dorab Mistry, Director of Godrej International Limited  and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lee Oi Hian, Executive Chairman of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad return. They will be joined by Datuk Nageeb Wahab, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries; Emily French, Founder & CEO of Global Protein AG; M.R. Chandran, Chairman of IRGA Sdn Bhd & Advisor to RSPO; Regina Koh, Senior Market Reporter of Fastmarkets; and Thomas Mielke, Executive Director of ISTA Mielke GMBH.

Mohd Saleem Kader Bakas, Director of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives highlighted Bursa Malaysia Derivatives’ strong performance as a key marketplace for price discovery and risk management for participants in this space. “Bursa Malaysia Derivatives hit new milestones in 2024, with Crude Palm Oil Futures (FCPO) trading 18.95 million contracts in 2024, representing a 17% increase over the previous record of 16.21 million contracts in 2023. This is a clear testament of FCPO undoubtedly being the preferred hedging and riskmitigating tool among the world’s edible oil traders. We remain focused on strengthening our marketplace by enhancing the ecosystem and improving our products, to reinforce our position as the center for palm oil price discovery,” said Mohd Saleem.

Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift added, “Events organised by the Exchange like POC2025 are curated to be insightful and engaging, enabling industry players to navigate market complexities and capitalise on opportunities. It exemplifies Bursa Malaysia’s commitment to contribute to business and economic prosperity by driving value and sustainable growth in the palm oil industry, a vital sector for the national economy.”

Beyond the main conference, registered delegates can take part in a range of educational programmes and networking activities. These include a plantation tour to the Palm Oil Experience Centre (POEC) at Carey Island, SD Guthrie Berhad, a golf tournament, and a gala dinner.
