The resounding beat of the gong marked the start of trading day today at Bursa Malaysia where members of the capital market gathered to introduce the inaugural Bursa Bull Charge, a run by all capital market players to raise funds for the community.
Dato’ Tajuddin Atan, CEO of Bursa Malaysia, said, “Bursa Bull Charge is a physical demonstration of the inclusiveness of the marketplace that we have been working hard to build and together, reach out to the community and help build for the future. This year began with the Bull Hunt investment awareness event, followed by the launch of the eCommunity – the Bursa Marketplace – in April, and subsequently the first-of-its-kind Fantasy FTBL.TRADR Challenge. These efforts have set the tone and motion for members of the capital marketplace to team up and collaborate towards building financial literacy amongst Malaysians especially young executives.
“Essentially, the Bursa Bull Charge capital market charity run is a way for Bursa Malaysia to raise awareness of and remind us of our responsibility to give back and invest in local communities. 21 October 2014 will be the day the capital market runs for others”, continued Dato’ Tajuddin.
The launch of Bursa Bull Charge was officiated together with CEOs of Maybank Investment Bank, SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad, YTL Corporation Berhad and IJM Corporation Berhad - Key Sponsors of the run together with partners and beneficiaries.
Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, Group President and CEO of Maybank, was delighted to see a focused and engaging approach to the beneficiaries of the Bursa Bull Charge. Datuk Abdul Farid Alias said, “This is a very good start to the first and inaugural capital market run, and we are proud to stand together with Bursa Malaysia and all other members of the capital market to help our community be better off. We constantly remind ourselves of the importance to go beyond our day-to-day and ensure that everyone in our community has equal opportunity to grow and build their future.”
Dato’ Tajuddin emphasised on that point by saying, “As we become a developed nation, ensuring a firm understanding and grasp of the core principles of finance will help to build stronger and sustainable communities.”
The Bursa Bull Charge, which will take place on 21st October 2014, will see a large congregation of the capital market industry, represented by government agencies, regulators, brokers, public listed companies, traders, remisiers, trading partners, media and a special category for Young Executives, coming together to raise funds towards supporting the growth of local entrepreneurship in the communities.
“We recognise the important role of young executives as future leaders and entrepreneurs. We believe that by involving them in the Bursa Bull Charge and bringing everyone together to run alongside CEOs and captains of the industry, we hope to inspire the young executives to see and understand the possibilities and opportunities available in the marketplace be it a career or in building wealth”, said Dato’ Tajuddin.
All proceeds raised from the Bursa Bull Charge will be channeled to the beneficiaries while Bursa Malaysia and the sponsor partners will absorb all costs incurred in organising the run. The list of beneficiaries and the details of their activities are available on the website at: bullcharge.bursamarketplace.com. Contributors have the opportunity to choose the beneficiary of their funds, which will be donated through the Bursa Bull Charge.
Bursa Bull Charge tracks a 5km run following Kuala Lumpur’s Capital Market Trail, a route throughout the Central Business District that passes the headquarters of many of Malaysia’s capital market players in our community, a reminder of the sustainability of the marketplace. The run categories will include the 1.5km CEOs Run, a 5.0km Individual Run and a Corporate Relay Run.
The Key Sponsors of The Bursa Bull Charge are Maybank Investment Bank, the Mammoth Bull Sponsor, SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad and YTL Corporation Berhad, the Jumbo Bull Sponsors and IJM Corporation, the Husky Bull Sponsor.
