Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) will host the annual “Bursa Excellence Awards 2017” to recognise the achievements of brokers and market intermediaries in 2017. Set to be held on 29 March 2018, the event will be graced by Finance Minister II, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
In its 5th year, themed “Driving Excellence, Celebrating Success”, the event will see a total of 19 awards categories being honoured. The event is curated to recognise and celebrate the best in the industry within the local markets across categories under equities, derivatives as well as the Islamic capital market.
Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said, “These recognitions are in honour of their contributions towards the growth and development of our capital market and serves to inspire others to carry the capital market towards greater heights.”
“Further to this, we hope brokers will take advantage of the initiatives and measures announced earlier this year by the Government and the Exchange to engage with domestic and foreign market participants and further promote our capital market growth. ”
Verified and audited by, SJ Grant Thornton, an audit firm, the selection criteria have been further solidified this year with new criteria added to the assessment process to better reflect the robust industry today.
Trading value remains a key component in the awards assessment process. In addition to evaluating based on regulatory and compliance aspects as well as the number of Central Depository System (CDS) account openings for the year of assessment, this year, the Exchange also looked at year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of transacted value.
In 2017, Bursa Malaysia embarked on various innovative initiatives and collaborated with brokers partners to grow the institutional and retail segment as well as widen the reach on investor education with the long-term goal towards creating a sustainable investing community. These initiatives, together with the positive economic and capital market environment during the year helped propel Bursa Malaysia’s market capitalisation to reach RM1.9 trillion from RM1.7 trillion in 2016, the fourth highest in ASEAN, as revealed in its latest Annual Report.
