Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) will host the “Bursa Malaysia Excellence Awards 2016 Gala Nite” to recognise the outstanding performance of brokers and market intermediaries in 2016. This event will be held on 3rd May 2017 and will be graced by Finance Minister II, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Themed “Recognising Malaysia’s Best”, there will be 18 awards categories for this year. The Awards selection criteria have been further strengthened this year to better reflect the industry today and is evaluated based on trading value and compliance ratings while for equities brokers, the number of new CDS accounts opened will also be assessed.
Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said, “The Awards serve as recognition for brokers and market intermediaries that are the top achievers in their respective categories, as they strive to further grow the market. This year, we have included new categories to also acknowledge the contribution of individuals within the broking community.”
In appreciation of the market participants’ efforts in developing the Malaysian capital market, domestically and in the global front, the Exchange first organised the Awards in 2014. The Awards acknowledged brokers and market intermediaries’ contributions in creating investment opportunities for investors and in increasing the depth and breadth of the capital market including market liquidity.
For the first quarter of 2017, brokers and market intermediaries have continued to play an important role in promoting the value proposition of the local capital market, thus leading to a healthy foreign capital inflow. In the first quarter of 2017, the cumulative net foreign inflows into Malaysian equities stood at RM5.71 billion, the highest within the emerging markets in ASEAN.
Moving forward, Bursa Malaysia will further intensify its effort to improve the market ecosystem and provide more opportunities for fund-raising and trading activities; in addition to improving investors experience through more active engagement and connectivity to the Exchange.
