Bursa Malaysia- Singapore Stock Exchange Trading Link Expected To Go Live In 2006

Date 18/01/2005

Bursa Malaysia Berhad’s proposed trading link with the Singapore Stock Exchange(SGX) announced in June last year, is only expected to be fully implemented once the new trading systems of both exchanges are launched.

Both parties have completed a detailed study to review the feasibility of offering the cross trading link by end of 2005. However, in view of major developments undertaken on their respective trading infrastructure, it has been concluded that the link may only be launched in 2006.

The linkage will facilitate the trading of securities listed on SGX by investors in Malaysia and similarly for securities listed on Bursa Malaysia by investors in Singapore. It will also provide brokers access to market and trading information and allow them to transmit orders through their local trading terminals directly into the electronic trading systems of the other exchange.
