Replicating the success of the inaugural event held at Bursa Malaysia’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur last year, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) today expanded the Seminar Pasaran Saham 2019 series to Penang, hosting over 200 participants including stakeholders involved in the manufacturing and the electrical & electronic industry.
Carrying the theme “Going Public-Unlocking The Potential of SMEs”, this market awareness seminar aims to educate and encourage entrepreneurs and SMEs to consider using Bursa Malaysia’s fundraising platforms as an avenue to accelerate their growth potential, expand their businesses and effectively allow them to move up the value chain.
The seminar featured panel discussions and knowledge sharing sessions aimed at giving SMEs a better understanding of the processes and procedures involved in a public fund raising exercise and how they can leverage Bursa Malaysia’s platforms to gain greater visibility, enhanced credibility and connect to a wider network in the region. The event concluded with an engaging dialogue session with YB Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof, Minister of Entrepreneur Development, moderated by Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia.
YB Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan said, “Bursa Malaysia’s platforms provide SMEs the opportunity to unlock their potential by providing access to long-term capital. Additionally, through listing, SMEs will adopt the necessary frameworks that will have a positive effect on their company such as improved corporate governance. This will give them greater visibility and confidence among investors that will open up new opportunities for further expansion and allow them to stay ahead of the curve. The Government remains committed towards entrepreneur development and will strive to continue improving SME access to market, promote entrepreneurship and skills, improve SME growth potential and strengthen dialogue with all SME stakeholders.”
Datuk Seri Tajuddin added, “Bursa Malaysia is happy to collaborate with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) on Seminar Pasaran Saham and believes this will be an effective platform to engage with SMEs and build awareness of the opportunities available to them. The Minister's proactive support to this important initiative and its objective in promoting access via alternative financing platforms such as the LEAP and ACE Market augur well with Bursa Malaysia as we look forward to more strategic collaborations with MED to grow the capital market.”
