Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia Derivatives”) will host its annual flagship Palm and Lauric Oils Conference & Exhibition (“POC”) 2022, from 7 to 9 March 2022. The POC is the leading global palm and lauric oil conference and serves as a platform for experts to come together to address the topics surrounding the supply and demand of major edible oils.
POC 2022 will be officiated by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin and will feature a line-up of leading industry speakers such as Tan Sri Datuk Dr Yusof Basiron, Executive Director of the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries; Mr. Thomas Mielke, Executive Director of ISTA Mielke GmbH – Oil World; Mr Togar Sitanggang, Vice Chairman of Indonesian Palm Oil Association/GAPKI; Mr Dorab Mistry, OBE, Director of Godrej International Trading & Investments Pte Ltd and many more.
Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad said, “Taking into account market uncertainties caused by the Omicron variant spread, geopolitical risks, and rising inflation rates which affect demand for palm oil, we hope that industry players will find this event useful for exchanging ideas and discussing trends in the commodities market. With CPO prices trading around RM7,000 per metric tonne, this is an opportune time for us to gather and discuss the outlook and significance for what many perceive as the cheapest edible oil versus competing edible oils.”
“We have seen a huge demand last year in FCPO (Crude Palm Oil Futures contract) and OCPO (Options on Crude Palm Oil Futures) products, with highest yearly trading volume at 15.6 million and 95,205 contracts traded respectively,” said Samuel Ho, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives. “We believe participants of this POC2022 would benefit from expert opinions on the trading possibilities of our products amid global tensions and changes in trading policies of our neighbouring countries.”
The 33rd POC will be held physically in Kuala Lumpur. Registrations have already been received from all over the world, including delegates from the Americas, Europe and Asia, who are keen to reconnect with their peers in the industry.
To ensure the health and safety of participants, Bursa Malaysia Derivatives has put in place preventive measures to maintain social distancing by carefully managing attendees’ numbers.
