Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia Derivatives” or “the Exchange”) is pleased to announce the upcoming edition of its East Malaysia Palm & Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition (“East Malaysia POC2023” or “emPOC2023”), at Imperial Hotel Kuching, Sarawak from 4 to 5 September 2023.
The East Malaysia POC2023 will be officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, the Premier of Sarawak, and will feature leading industry speakers, which among others include Mr. Thomas Mielke, Executive Director of ISTA Mielke BMBH – Oil World; Mr. M. R. Chandran, Chairman of IRGA Sdn Bhd and Advisor to RSPO; and Datuk Bacho bin Jansie, Chairman of the East Malaysia Planters’ Association.
“As the state with the largest oil palm planted area in Malaysia, Sarawak accounts for 21.7% of the country’s palm oil production in 2022. Recognising its immense significance and contribution in the crude palm oil industry, we are pleased to bring our flagship palm oil conference to Kuching, Sarawak, following the success of last year’s inaugural East Malaysia edition in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah,” said Mohd Saleem Kader Bakas, Director, Bursa Malaysia Derivatives.
“Our flagship palm oil conference continues to play a pivotal role in promoting Bursa Malaysia Derivatives’ suite of palm oil product offerings and fostering greater understanding of the current challenges and opportunities faced by market players,” added Mohd Saleem. “The East Malaysia POC2023 will not only provide valuable knowledge sharing on the East Malaysia palm oil industry but also offer insights into the global edible oils market, to keep participants abreast of the latest market trends.”
While discussions at emPOC2023 will focus primarily on the dynamics of palm and major edible oils’ supply and demand, the conference will also highlight the latest developments in deforestation regulation and the industry’s progress towards achieving carbon emissions reduction.
“As Bursa Malaysia accelerates Corporate Malaysia’s pivot towards green supply chains, we are committed to strengthening our influence in promoting sustainable practices among businesses, including in the palm oil industry. The discussions at emPOC2023 will inspire palm oil players to discover opportunities in the carbon market, while echoing the importance of responsible practices, shaping a future where industry growth and environmental conservation go hand in hand,” said Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives and CEO of Bursa Malaysia.
Aside from the main conference, attendees of emPOC2023 will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities, including an exhibition booth tour, golf challenge, and workshops covering topics that facilitate palm oil businesses in their pursuit of sustainable business growth - such as opportunities for carbon projects and strategies to manage CPO price fluctuations.
Concluded Datuk Umar Swift, “the invaluable insights gained from Bursa Malaysia’s East Malaysia POC2023 will undoubtedly spur impactful endeavours that will not only benefit participants but also support the industry in effectively navigating the ever-changing market landscape.”
