Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Records Highest Trading Volume

Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad recorded the highest trading volume of 26,831 contracts on 27 May 2004, superseding the previous record of 21,919 contracts which was recorded on 25 February 2004.

The KLCI Futures (FKLI) Contract also recorded its highest trading volume of 14,795 contracts yesterday, superseding the previous record of 14,152 contracts, also recorded on 25 February 2004.

Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Encik Yusli Mohamed Yusoff said that renewed interest in derivatives products and enhanced investor confidence has contributed to the surge in derivatives trading.

"Active trading activity in both the KLCI Futures (FKLI) Contract and the Crude Palm Oil Futures (FCPO) Contract contributed to the new trading high recorded on 27 May 2004. "We also observed that there has been an increase in volume for the FKLI from local retailers, from 41% in April 2004 to 46% to date.

"With 8 products now listed on Bursa Derivatives Berhad, investors have a wider choice of derivatives investment options - from the commodities, equities and financial futures contracts offered.

"Bursa Malaysia continuously seeks to enhance the breadth and depth of investment opportunities for the investor. Efforts to promote the diversity of investments available on the exchange is consistently done both domestically and internationally," Yusli said.

Bursa Malaysia together with its participating organisations will be conducting a series of roadshows for retail investors on investment opportunities in the securities and derivatives market.

In collaboration with OSK Holdings, a roadshow will be held in Ipoh on 10 June 2004 and in Penang on 11 June 2004. Interested participants can contact the nearest OSK office for further details and to reserve a seat.

Bursa Malaysia together with CIMB Futures will be organising a workshop on 17 July 2004. Details of the workshop will be published by CIMB Futures soon.
