Md Nor Ahmad, Chief Regulatory Officer of Bursa Malaysia, presented a cheque of RM100,000 to the fund at the NST office this afternoon.

"Internally, through Yayasan Bursa Malaysia, the community foundation of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, the staff have started the 'Bursa Cares - Tsunami Disaster Fund' to extend their personal contribution towards disaster recovery efforts.

"No amount of money can compensate lives lost, but we hope our small contribution, combined with the generosity of all Malaysians will help ease the burden of family members of victims and all those made homeless by this terrible disaster," he said.

Yayasan Bursa Malaysia has worked with over 600 community homes and contributed almost RM12 million towards the development of society. Projects include a study loan scheme, tuition programmes at community homes, environment, art and English camps for children from community homes, visits and financial aid to community homes and organisations.

"We are glad to be able to contribute to our fellow Malaysians in their time of need. It is also wonderful to know that Malaysians, in such dire times, have responded by acts of kindness and generosity to help Malaysians and people of other nationalities who have been affected by this disaster," Md Nor said.
