At the farewell ceremony attended by almost all 1,017 of Bursa's staff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, Yusli Mohamed Yusoff thanked all staff for their effort, commitment and contributions to the growth and progress of the organisation thus far.
"To those who are staying on, the changes and adjustments following the rightsizing exercise offers opportunities to innovate and improve, to do things faster, more efficiently and in a more cost-effective manner."
The 414 people who took up the VSS will be leaving in stages. The first batch of 302 people left yesterday while the remaining 112 people will be leaving in stages until December this year, in ensuring that there is a seamless hand-over of functions and tasks.
In preparing staff who took up the VSS, for new jobs and business opportunities, the Bursa had arranged a series of workshops and seminars on Career Transition -consisting of Job Search, Self-Employment and a combination of both and also a seminar on franchise opportunities which was held through the month of June.
"Staff response to the seminars and workshops were overwhelming. Besides exposing them to opportunities in entrepreneurship, the workshops taught them the process and procedures in starting a business," Yusli said.
The rightsizing exercise has also facilitated the merging of business and support units. With the new organisation structure in place, Bursa Malaysia would like to announce the following changes and appointments effective 1 July 2004.
Mohd Ridzal Mohd Sheriff, Head, Clearing, Settlement & Depository will undertake the additional function of Group Business Development as Acting Head, following the resignation of Dr Zaha Rina Zahari, Head, Group Business Development. Mohd Ridzal will oversee the functions of Group Marketing, Brand Management and New Product Introduction.
In the office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Ravindran Navaratnam from Technology Support will assume the position of CIO - Strategic and Yew Kim Keong, Head Facilities Management of Exchange Systems will assume the position of CIO - Operations. With the resignation of YM Ungku Abdul Razak Ungku Rahman, Head, Exchange Systems, the functions of the Exchange Systems business unit is transferred to the CIO's office.
Selvarany Rasiah, Head Legal Advisory is appointed as Chief Legal Officer, with the merging of Legal Advisory, Group Legal and Group Secretarial and Compliance into Legal Advisory and Corporate Legal Affairs.
Khairussaleh Ramli had also been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 June 2004.
"The contributions from many leaders and staff of the exchange so far will be the foundation from which improvement and progress for Bursa Malaysia will continue to have the chance to grow and thrive. In this process of changes and fresh beginnings, let us all continue to be supportive and co-operative with each other," Yusli said
