Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) announced the appointment of Puan Sharifatu Laila Syed Ali as a Public Interest Director to its Board of Directors line up effective 1 October 2020. A Public Interest Director is appointed by the Minister of Finance pursuant to Section 10(1)(a) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.
Puan Sharifatu Laila currently serves as a director of RHB Bank Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Berhad and the Minority Shareholders Watch Group. She previously served as the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of ValueCap Sdn Bhd from 2002 to 2014, and as its Group CEO/Managing Director from January 2015 to July 2018.
Puan Sharifatu Laila holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Malaya and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She brings to the board over 30 years in the field of investment management and portfolio investing in both the domestic and regional markets.
As a strong advocate in Sustainable & Responsible Investing (SRI), her appointment to the board will help strengthen Bursa Malaysia’s commitment towards promoting the highest standards of corporate governance to ensure the long-term sustainability of our marketplace.
