Bursa Malaysia was awarded one of the best ranked companies in Asia-Pacific by the Investor Relations Global Rankings (IRGR) and emerged first in the categories of Best Corporate Governance Practices and Best Online Annual Report. Globally, Bursa Malaysia was ranked Second in the Top 30 best ranked companies for Corporate Governance competing against 500 participating companies from 35 countries. The awards were given in recognition of Bursa Malaysia’s exemplary best practice on corporate governance as well as online annual report structure.

The IRGR’s evaluation methodology was based on technical reviews conducted by MZ Consult and verified by an independent committee comprised of KPMG, Arnold & Porter, The Bank of New York Mellon, Bloomberg, Corporate Asia Network, Barbosa, Müssnich & Aragão and Demarest & Almeida. The corporate governance ranking evaluates the company’s management accountability, Board of Directors, minority shareholders’ protection, capital structure and other policies, transparency and equality while balancing stakeholders’ interests. Meanwhile, the Online Annual Report category was assessed based on content, design & navigability, interactivity and technology & data handling.
Participants were benchmarked against companies in the global and Asia Pacific region in four main categories comprising Best Ranked IR Website, Best Ranked Online Annual Report, Best Ranked Financial Disclosures Procedures and Best Ranked Corporate Governance Practices.
Bursa Malaysia was ranked fourth in the year 2008 under the Best Corporate Governance Practices category in the Asia Pacific region. For 2010, Bursa Malaysia was evaluated against 53 companies from 18 countries in the Asia Pacific Region in all the categories mentioned.
The international award is organised by MZ Consult, a leading investor relations and financial communications firm, with the support from KPMG, NYSE Euronext, Arnold & Porter, Demarest & Almeida, The Bank of New York Mellon, Corporate Asia Network, Bloomberg, NEVIR, Sodali and MZ-CCG.
