Bursa Malaysia Announces The Appointment Of A New Public Interest Director

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) today announced the appointment of Yang Mulia Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as Public Interest Director and Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors (“Board”), effective 1 July 2024. A Public Interest Director is appointed by the Minister of Finance pursuant to Section 10(1)(a) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007. 

Raja Teh Maimunah brings over 30 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry - covering investment, wholesale, Islamic, and digital banking. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of AEON Bank (M) Berhad (formerly known as ACS Digital Berhad) since December 2022. She also currently serves as a Board Member of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and as a Trustee of Amanah Warisan Negara. She previously held the positions of Chief Executive Officer of AmInvestment Bank and Managing Director of Wholesale Banking, AmBank Group. She had also served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad and Chief Operating Officer of Digital Innovation and Transaction Banking at Hong Leong Banking Group. 

Notably, Raja Teh Maimunah had served as the Global Head of Islamic Markets at Bursa Malaysia between 2009 and 2011, where she led the establishment of Bursa Suq Al-Sila’, the world’s first end-to-end Shariah-compliant Commodity trading platform. She has also held senior positions at Kuwait Finance House Malaysia and Bank Alkhair Bahrain.  

In her early years, Raja Teh Maimunah was with RHB Investment as its Head of Investment Banking, and spent nearly a decade at CIMB Investment Bank focusing on debt and equity origination and equity sales. She also served in Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad during the Asian financial crisis.  

Raja Teh Maimunah is a Chartered Banker (CB), a member of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), and a Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIFP) fellow. She holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of East London, UK, and an Honorary Doctor of Law from the same institution.
