Bursa Malaysia Announces New Islamic Capital Market Director

Date 01/05/2026

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) today announced the appointment of Azizan Abdul Aziz (“Azizan”) as Director of its Islamic Capital Market (ICM), effective 1 May 2026.

Azizan will assume the new role in addition to his current position as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bursa Malaysia. The appointment reflects Bursa Malaysia’s continued focus on strengthening its Islamic capital market proposition alongside its broader strategic priorities.

Dato’ Fad’l Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, said, “Azizan’s appointment strengthens Bursa Malaysia’s leadership focus on its Islamic Capital Market at a time of sustained market growth and expanding international participation. His experience, financial expertise and institutional understanding position him well to provide strategic direction for our Islamic market priorities, while continuing to ensure strong financial stewardship as CFO.”

Malaysia’s Islamic capital market remains a key pillar of the domestic capital market, having expanded from RM2.2 trillion in 2020 to RM2.7 trillion by end-2025, with Shariah-compliant equities and sukuk contributing RM1.3 trillion and RM1.4 trillion respectively1. Reflecting the depth of Shariah investing locally, Shariahcompliant companies make up more than 80% of public listed companies on Bursa Malaysia.

In his capacity as Director of ICM, Azizan will provide strategic oversight and direction for Bursa Malaysia’s Islamic capital market-related priorities, working closely with internal stakeholders and market participants to support the continued development of the ICM ecosystem. As CFO, he will continue to oversee Bursa Malaysia’s overall finance function, including financial and management reporting, corporate planning and budgeting.

Azizan brings more than 20 years of experience in finance, accounting, corporate finance and advisory. Prior to joining Bursa Malaysia, Azizan served as Group CFO for Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. He was also Merger and Acquisition Partner at Deloitte Southeast Asia Ltd., and held senior roles at KPMG Financial Services Advisory in the United Kingdom and Malaysia, amongst others. He holds a degree in Accounting & Finance from the University of Plymouth, UK, and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) as well as a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
