Bursa Malaysia And SIAS Showcase Malaysian Investment Opportunities To Singapore Investors

Date 10/12/2009

Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS) in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia, the Malaysian Stock Exchange is organising a retail investment seminar themed Malaysia Day 2009 which is aimed at generating Singaporean investor interest to Malaysian listed securities. The event is sponsored by Bursa Malaysia for the fourth year running, and will be held at the NTUC Auditorium on 12th December 2009.

SIAS President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. David Gerald said, "It is well-timed for SIAS to provide this programme to investors. Singapore investors who have been long-time investors in Malaysian stocks are looking for good picks. The current credit crunch and financial market meltdown has heightened investment opportunities to investors. Stocks which are normally beyond the reach of investors have now become potential investment prospects. Both Singapore and Malaysia, in particular the Malaysian stock market, have good offerings for investors willing to take a mid to long term view on their investments for good returns."

Dato' Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said that Singapore investors are familiar with Malaysian companies as both countries share close linkages.  "I believe that in a time of prevailing cautious sentiments, Singapore investors who are looking to diversify their risk and investment portfolio will find favour with some of the investment opportunities available on Bursa Malaysia.

"We have, over the years, committed ourselves to building a business and investment friendly environment, and will continue to work with our counterparts across the border to ease efficiency and access to investments from Malaysia," he said.

Malaysia Day 2009 will feature profile presentations by CEOs and senior management of nine (9) selected Malaysian public listed companies from various sectors such as education, industrial products, plantation, construction, properties, consumer products, trading services and finance. The featured companies are HELP International Corporation Berhad, Signature International Berhad, Sapuracrest Petroleum Berhad, OSK Holdings Berhad, KSL Holdings Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Tanjong Public Limited Company, C.I. Holdings Berhad and Notion Vtec Berhad.
