Bursa Malaysia & MAICSA Jointly Organise Nationwide Roadshows On Listing Requirements To Enhance Market Participants' Understanding

Date 04/06/2007

Bursa Malaysia and MAICSA (the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) will be conducting a series of joint seminars on a nationwide roadshow entitled ‘Updates On Listing Requirements – Issues and Challenges’ with the collective aim of increasing market participants’ understanding of Bursa Malaysia’s Listing Requirements (LR) and enhancing disclosure practices amongst Public Listed Companies (PLCs). The first seminar will be held at the Securities Commission in Kuala Lumpur on 5th June 2007, followed by Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Johor Bahru, Petaling Jaya and Penang.

The seminars also aim to provide a platform for participants to engage actively with Bursa Malaysia for clarification and feedback on the LR. The exchange will also share LR related case studies and findings on the enforcement of corporate disclosure conduct breaches with participants during the seminar.

“The seminars are part of Bursa Malaysia’s continued efforts to engage directly with our market participants on a periodic basis to facilitate greater exchange of feedback and ensure that new introductions and revisions to the LR are understood in their context. This will definitely aid towards gearing our market participants to execute their roles effectively in line with the dynamics of the evolving market scenario and regulatory framework,” said Selvarany Rasiah, Chief Legal Officer of Bursa Malaysia.

Selvarany added that the seminar also aims to share the importance of engaging in good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Investor Relations (IR) practices in order to promote business sustainability, which will add value to the quality of the Malaysian market.

MAICSA President, Akbar Moidunny in his statement thanked Bursa Malaysia for partnering the Institute to disseminate current updates to practitioners, stakeholders and investors.

“This collaboration would allow an opportunity for the Institute’s members to gain a better understanding of the Listing Requirements”, he said. En Akbar added that with the recent hype on corporate social responsibility, it was timely to have a session from an expert to further define CSR, which was a fundamental duty of every citizen and not just corporations. He also welcomed the presentation on Investor Relations, which would help to promote greater understanding of IR practices.

The Bursa Malaysia–MAICSA roadshow is in line with the exchange’s continuous efforts to work with professional bodies to educate and ensure that senior management, company secretaries, and directors are equipped with the relevant tools and knowledge needed to better understand and execute their duties and responsibilities, as this will collectively gear towards promoting a credible and efficient capital market.

The Bursa Malaysia–MAICSA Roadshow will feature the following topics :-

  • Key obligations in relation to transactions: Changes to the Listing Requirements
  • Discharge of Disclosure Obligations under the Listing Requirements: Key Observations
  • Compliance and Enforcement of the Listing Requirements: Updates and Case Studies
