Bursa Malaysia And EcoKnights Collaborates To Organise “Eco Carnival 2017” To Raise Environmental Awareness Among Bursa’s Employees And Public

Date 25/04/2017

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) and EcoKnights, a non-profit organisation, had formed a strategic collaboration to organise an environmental-themed carnival called “Eco Carnival 2017” to raise environmental awareness and encourage participations from Bursa Malaysia’s employees and public in sustainability-related activities.

The Eco Carnival will take place on Friday, 28th April 2017 at the Annexe Foyer, Bursa Malaysia building in Kuala Lumpur. It is Bursa Malaysia’s inaugural event in promoting sustainability-related programs and eco activities for 2017 in alignment with its Corporate Social Responsibility Framework. It will feature the Green Market called the Bazaar, film screenings, environment-themed workshops and public talks to elevate ecological consciousness and empowerment among the Bursa employees and public.

Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said, “Bursa Malaysia is committed to upholding the principles of corporate sustainability and to continue creating long term value for all stakeholders. Our commitment does not stop at the marketplace as we walk our talk in promoting ethical practices. We go beyond by creating a workplace that is conducive for Warga Bursa to thrive. We give back to community by elevating lives and enriching societies. We undertake responsible practices that preserve our environment by organising sustainability themed events like the Bursa Bull Charge, our series of CSR activities and now our very own Eco Carnival. Our collaboration with EcoKnights is timely as both parties hold mutual interests in creating awareness, especially on energy conservation and inspiring surrounding communities.”

Bursa Malaysia has advocated sustainability as key to business success by implementing a holistic approach to business management; incorporating economic, environmental, social and governance considerations alongside financial ones.

“Our partnership with Bursa Malaysia this year aims to encourage the development of higher consciousness for sustainability, through workshops on sustainable living, talks by prominent environmentalists, and environment-themed film screening. We hope that this would be the first of many events by Bursa with a sustainability theme. I believe Bursa is setting a right example for other companies out there to always think about “sustainability” in their business operations and events,” said EcoKnights’ Founder and President, Yasmin Rasyid.

The Bazaar or Green Market will showcase dedicated social enterprises, non-government organisations as well as community groups promoting their eco-friendly and creative products to the public, campaigning for social, cultural and environmental causes. This is to support the Goal 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals – Responsible Consumption and Production.

The film screenings will feature a series of environment-oriented films, carrying the themes of Energy, Climate Change and Cultural, and Indigenous Community. The environment-themed workshops and talks by EcoKnights’ partner, PopTani Asia, offers an opportunity for Bursa employees to master the art of sustainable living by acquiring the relevant know-how of green and healthy practices.
