Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. To Join The Nasdaq-100 Index Beginning February 13, 2001

Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade®) (Nasdaq:BRCD), of San Jose, California, will become a component of the Nasdaq-100 Index®, effective at the beginning of trading Tuesday, February 13, 2001. Brocade will also be included in the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking StockSM (Amex:QQQ). Brocade will replace SDL, Inc. (SDLI), which is being acquired by JDS Uniphase Corporation.

Brocade is a leading provider of Storage Area Networking infrastructure. Using the Brocade SilkWorm® family of Fibre Channel fabric switches and software, companies can connect servers with storage devices through a Storage Area Network (SAN), creating a highly reliable and scalable environment for storage applications.

The Nasdaq-100 Index, launched in January 1985, has risen over 24 percent in the past two years, although past performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance and Index performance does not represent the performance of the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock. The Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock represents ownership in the Nasdaq-100 Trust. The Trust holds a portfolio of equity securities that compose the Nasdaq-100 Index and aims to provide investment results that generally correspond with its performance.
