BOVESPA's Monthly Bulletin - January 2006

Foreign Investment Balance
BOVESPA ended January with a surplus in the foreign investment inflow which amounted to R$ 2,613,946,508.00 (USD 1.18 billion), resulting from stock purchases of R$ 17,557,383,350.00 (USD 7.92 billion) and sales of R$ 14,943,436,842.00 (USD 6.74 billion), as shows the table below:

Investors Groups

The monthly trading turnover was pushed once again by Foreign Investors, who led transactions with a 35.13% stake against 33.16% in December. Institutional Investors ranked second with a 27.92% participation compared to 27.86% registered in the previous month, followed by Individuals with 25.44% (against 22.99%); Financial Institutions, 9.20% (against 12.61%); Companies, 2.09% (against 2.23%); and Other Groups, 0.22% (against a 0.15% stake).



Home Broker Stake
In January, Home Broker system set historical record in number of users - 52,208 against 45,036 in the previous month – and also in BOVESPA total trade volume - 21.05% stake against 20.50%, respectively. The daily average of trades stood at R$ 253.4 million (against R$ 181.2 million). The average value of transactions in the period were R$ 8,000 (against R$ 7,400). Currently 51 brokerage houses provide this service.


Trading Value
In January, BOVESPA turned over R$ 46.3 billion (USD 20.4 billion) compared to R$ 37.4 billion (USD 16.5 billion) in the previous month. The daily average stood at 77,640 trades worth R$ 2.2 billion (USD 971 billion), compared to 61,779 trades worth R$ 1.8 billion (USD 667 billion) registered in December. The most active stocks in terms of trading value were: Petrobras PN (R$ 4.85 billion); Vale R Doce PNA (R$ 3.08 billion); Bradesco PN (R$ 1.88 billion); Caemi PN (R$ 1.72 billion); and Usiminas PNA (R$ 1.44 billion).



Markets
Cash Market was responsible for 93% of the total value registered in January, followed by Options Market (4.1%) and Forward Market (2.9%). After Market amounted to 13,732 trades worth R$ 207,350,180.71, against 10,291 transactions worth R$ 128,081,518.36 registered in the previous month.


Ibovespa
The benchmark Ibovespa stock index, compound of the 57 most traded stocks on BOVESPA, closed January up 14.7% at 38,382 points. The best performing stocks in the period were Tim Part. PN (+38.9%), Tim Part. ON (+35.2%), Cesp PN (+35.1%), Usiminas PNA (+33%) and Sid Nacional ON (+29.2%), while the worst performing stocks were Embratel Par PN (-13.2%), Brasil T Par PN (-9.2%), Aracruz PNB (-7.5%), Braskem PNA (-6.7%) and Telemar N L (-6.1%).


Other Indices
The following indices also presented positive performance in January: ITAG (+19.4%, at 5,734 points); IBrX-50 (+18.7% at 5,727 points); IBrX-100 (+18.3%, at 12,669 points); IGC (+17.9%, at 4,316 points); IVBX-2 (+10.3%, at 3,894 points); IEE (+12.5%, at 11,177 points); and ITEL (+6.3% at 1,012 points).


Fixed Income
In January, eight new fixed income securities have started to be traded on BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets (four Receivables Investments Funds- FIDCs, three Real Estate Receivable Certificates - CRIs and one Corporate Bond) The trading value of BOVESPA fixed income markets turned over R$ 17,978,283.58 (USD 7,939,359.92). Out of this total, R$ 9,381,231.48 (USD 4,142,830.04) referred to Corporate Bonds; R$ 6,944,415.21 (USD 3,066,711.66) to CRIs; and R$ 1,652,636.89 (USD 729,818.23) to FIDC.



Novo Mercado and Levels of Corporate Governance Statistics
The IGC (Corporate Governance Stock Index) closed January up 17.9%. It is composed of 18 companies that joined Novo Mercado and 47 of Level 1 and 2 (Levels of Corporate Governance). These 65 companies currently represent 49% of BOVESPA’s total market capitalization and 46% of the total trading value.



Market Capitalization
The market capitalization of the listed companies on BOVESPA amounted to R$ 1.282 billion (USD 583 billion) in January.
