This figure includes purchases of international investors in the public offerings, which amounted to BRL 5,019,927,049.30 (or USD 2,869,921,039.90), and the net trading value at BOVESPA, which registered an outflow of BRL 5,781,403,376.00 (or USD 3,311,754,409.00), as of March 31, 2008.
In March, international investors’ total purchase at BOVESPA was BRL 39,336,614,389.00 (or USD 23,052,788,034.00) and total sales of BRL 41,252,265,352.00 (or USD 24,206,443,771.00), totalling a net outflow of BRL 1,915,650,963.00 (or USD 1,153,655,737.00).

Trading Value and Number of TradesIn March, the total trading value was BRL 111.3 billion (or USD 65.3 billion). The daily average was BRL 5.6 billion (or USD 3.3 billion) and the number of trades was 203,961. For comparison purposes, February registered BRL 6.1 billion (or USD 3.6 billion) as financial value daily traded with 203,322 trades.
The most active stocks in terms of trading value were:
- Petrobras PN (BRL 16.8 billion or USD 9.9 billion);
- Vale R Doce PNA (BRL 12.9 billion or USD 7.6 billion);
- Cesp PNB (BRL 3,7 billion or USD 2.2 billion);
- Bradesco PN (BRL 3.4 billion or USD 2.0 billion); and
- Petrobras ON (BRL 3.3 billion or USD 1.9 billion).
In March, the International Investors’ stake reached 36% of the total trading value, compared to 35% registered in February. Institutional Investors registered 27.1% (against 29%), followed by Individuals with 26.9% (against 25%); Financial Institutions, 7% (against 9%); Companies, 2.2%, (against 1.9%).
The Home Broker system reached the following performance in March:
- The daily average trading value registered BRL 1.2 billion
- The daily number of trades reached 118,748 (this figures consider all trades with one side, at least, executed via home broker).
- Total traded value amounted to BRL 24.1 billion
- 2.4 million total number of trades
- The average value per trade registered BRL 10.2 thousand

Market CapitalizationIn March, BOVESPA’s market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.3 trillion (or USD 1.3 trillion) against BRL 2.4 trillion (or USD 1.4 trillion) in February.
The 157 companies listed at Level 1, Level 2 and Novo Mercado by the end of March represented 57% of BOVESPA’s total market capitalization, 64% of the trading value and 67% of the number of trades in the cash market.
In March, Iochpe Maxion S.A. joined Novo Mercado.
The Cash Market was responsible for 93% of the total value traded in March, followed by the Forward (4%) and Options (3%) markets.

Fixed IncomeIn March, 5 FDICs (Receivable Investment Funds) and 2 Corporate Bonds started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. The trading value of BOVESPA’s fixed income markets turned over BRL 75,430,601.99 (or USD 44,266,826.12), against BRL 95,968,465.82 (or USD 55,151,379.53), the total traded in February. Out of this total, BRL 52,618,530.67 (or USD 31,008,644.64) referred to FIDCs, BRL 13,793,524.48 (or USD 7,986,338.30) to CRIs, and BRL 9,018,546.35 (or USD 5,271,843.18) to Corporate Bonds.
The Securities Lending Program of CBLC (BTC) registered a turnover of BRL 30.1 billion in March, against BRL 29.2 billion registered in February. In March, 49,989 trades were executed (against 55,283 in the previous month). These transactions represented 246 underlying securities (against 251 in February).
By the end of March, the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) registered 485,981 active individual investor custody accounts, against 469,791 in February.
BOVESPA Popularization CampaignIn March, 102 new investment clubs have registered with BOVESPA. The year 2008 already counts on 265 new investment clubs.
Since September 2002, the popularization campaign “BOVESPA Where You Are” has stimulated the creation of 2,312 investment clubs.
BOVESPA had 2,372 clubs registered as of March 2008. According to the last available data (February/08), the investment clubs’ total assets amounted to BRL 14.9 billion, with 154,625 investors.
