International Investors

The net inflow of foreign investments in the Brazilian Stock Market accounted to USD 3,127,274,520.87 in 2008. This figure sums up the purchases of international investors in public offerings - which amounted to USD 2,869,921,039.90, well as the net trading value at BOVESPA - which registered an inflow of USD 257,353,481.00, as of April 30, 2008.

In April, international investors’ total purchase at BOVESPA was BRL USD 27,525,769,586.00 and total sales of USD 23,956,661,696.00. This balance totals a net inflow of USD 3,569,107,890.00.

The International Investor’s participation in public offerings represented 59.5% of the total value of offerings in 2008, which accounted to USD 4,808,096,463.70 -considering only the IPOs whose closure notices were published up to May 5th 2008.

Trading Value and Number of Trades

In April, the total trading value of BOVESPA was BRL 130.9 billion (or USD 77.6 billion). The daily average was BRL 6.2 billion (or USD 3.7 billion) and the number of trades was 206,130. For comparison purposes, March registered BRL 5.6 billion (or USD 3.3 billion) as financial value daily traded with 203,961 trades.

The most active stocks in terms of trading value were:

  • Petrobras PN (BRL 22.8 billion or USD 13.5 billion);
  • Vale R Doce PNA (BRL 13.0 billion or USD 7.7 billion);
  • Usiminas PNA (BRL 3.8 billion or USD 2.2 billion);
  • Petrobras ON (BRL 3.5 billion or USD 2.1 billion); and
  • Bradesco PN (BRL 3.5 billion or USD 2.1 billion).
Investors Groups

In April, the International Investors’ stake reached 33% of the total trading value, compared to 36% registered in March. Institutional Investors registered 29% (against 27.1%), followed by Individuals with 26% (against 26.9%); Financial Institutions, 8% (against 7%); Companies, 4%, (against 2%).

Home Broker

The Home Broker system reached the following performance in April:

  • The daily average trading value registered BRL 1.3 billion
  • The daily number of trades reached 126,086 (this figures consider all trades with one side, at least, executed via home broker).
  • Total traded value amounted to BRL 27.8 billion
  • 2.7 million total number of trades
  • The average value per trade registered BRL 10.5 thousand

The After Market totalled 65,477 trades and BRL 625,608,662.58 as financial value this month.

Market Capitalization

In April, BOVESPA's market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.5 trillion (or USD 1.5 trillion) against BRL 2.3 trillion (or USD 1.3 trillion) in March.

Novo Mercado and Levels of Corporate Governance

The 161 companies listed at Level 1, Level 2 and Novo Mercado by the end of April represented 58% of BOVESPA's total market capitalization, 64% of the trading value and 72% of the number of trades in the cash market.

April registered 2 IPOs in Novo Mercado: Hypermarcas S.A. and Le Lis Blanc Deux Com Confec Roupas S.A.

Markets

The Cash Market was responsible for 96% of the total traded value in April, followed by the Options (3.6%) and Forward (0.3%) markets.

Ibovespa

The Ibovespa benchmark closed April up 11.3% at 67,868 points.

In April, all other indices closed the month up: ISE (13.9% at 2,052 points); ITAG (12.7% at 8,457 points); IBrX-50 (11.9% at 10,161 points); IBrX-100 (11.8% at 22,451 points); IGC (11.7% at 6,831 points); INDX (11.7% at 11,085 points); ivbx-2 (8.6% at 5,634 points); IEE (6.9% at 18,024 points) and. ITEL (2.4% at 1,350 points).

Fixed Income

In April, 1 FDIC (Receivable Investment Fund), 2 CRIs (Real Estate Receivable Certificates) and 2 Corporate Bonds started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. The trading value of BOVESPA's fixed income markets turned over BRL 159,024,313.92 (or USD 94,172,500.32).

Out of this total, BRL 155,188,892.18 (or USD 91,899,012.83) referred to FIDCs, BRL 2,676,034.36 (or USD 694,387.38) to CRIs, and BRL 1,159,387.38 (or USD 1,578,952.43) to Corporate Bonds.

Securities Lending Program

The Securities Lending Program of CBLC (BTC) registered a turnover of BRL 28.3 billion in April, against BRL 30.1 billion registered in March. In April, 49,742 trades were executed (against 49,989 in the previous month). These transactions represented 253 underlying securities (against 246 in March).

Individual Investors

By the end of April, the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) registered 479,724 active individual investor custody accounts, against 485,981 in March.

BOVESPA Popularization Campaign

In April, 105 new investment clubs have registered with BOVESPA. The year 2008 already counts on 370 new investment clubs registered. This is part of the results of the popularization campaign “BOVESPA Where You Are”. Since its creation, in 2002, it has stimulated the creation of 2,417 investment clubs.

BOVESPA had 2,457 clubs registered as of April 2008. According to the last available data (March/08), the investment clubs' total assets amounted to BRL 14.2 billion, with 154,780 investors.
