Bourse Shares Leap As Activist Investor TCI Says Consolidation In Exchanges Sector Inevitable - FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Up By 10 Per Cent In January 2018 – Index Sets New Closing All-Time High For First Time Since Financial Crisis - 25 Of 28 Listed Exchanges See Increase In Share Value

Closing at 52,239.63 on 31 January 2018, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of exchanges performance, has climbed back to a level not seen since early December 2007. A new closing all-time high of 52,919.7 was set on 26 January 2018.

Last month, 25 of the 28 listed exchanges on the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index saw their values raised.

Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and also Co-founder of the Index said:

"With the MiFID II reforms in the European Union coming into force in January, more with a whimper than bang, and the rolling back, of regulation in the US, trading venue operators thoughts now turn to consolidation and transformation, as animal spirits return to the market.”

The Index closed at 52,239.63 on 31 January 2018, up from 47,488.56 on 29 December 2018. Over 12 months, the Index has increased by 33.9 per cent.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was South Africa’s JSE with a 27.3 per cent increase in share price from 29 December 2017 to 31 January 2018. This was followed by Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing with 23.5 per cent increase and B3 with an increase of 19.9 per cent over the same period.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was Multi Commodity Exchange of India with a 14.6 per cent decrease in share price from 29 December 2017 to 31 January 2018. This was followed by India’s BSE with a 1.5 per cent decline and a 0.5 per cent decline for the Philippine Stock Exchange over the same period.
