Boston Stock Exchange Announces Volume Numbers For The First Six Months Of FY2003 Daily Share Volume Up 17%

The Boston Stock Exchange (BSE) announced today volume results for the first half of fiscal year 2003. Average daily share volume grew from 41.6 to 48.6 million shares, an increase of 17% compared to the first six months of fiscal year 2002. Trade volume for the same period declined from 72,474 to 71,961 trades per day, a drop of less than 1%, and reflective of the ongoing slump affecting the nation's stock market.

The Exchange also reported positive share volume growth for the second quarter of fiscal year 2003. For the quarter ended March 31, 2003, average daily share volume on the BSE reached 43.7 million shares, up 2% from the second quarter of fiscal year 2002. In addition, the BSE experienced growth in share volume from two of its premier product offerings -BEACON Remoteā„¢ and the Competing Specialist Initiative (CSI). In the second quarter of fiscal year 2003, BEACON Remote and CSI average daily share volume grew 17% and 8%, respectively, compared to the same period in fiscal year 2002.
