Borsa Italia - IDEMAGAZINE: A Record First Six Months

Date 28/09/2005

Number 35, the September 2005 edition of IDEMAGAZINE, Borsa Italiana’s Newsletter dedicated to derivatives, is now available.

The September edition of IDEMAGAZINE focuses on two major issues of paramount importance for intermediaries:

  • The continuous growth trend in the IDEM market;
  • A summary of the major operations on capital underway as announced by the S&P/MIB companies.

The article, entitled “A rewarding half-year for Borsa Italiana’s IDEM market” (page 2), takes an advance look at the results of the growth trend in the IDEM market during the first six months of 2005.

Just some previews to give an idea: during the first six months of the year, turnover was up by 39.4% compared to the same period in 2004; open interest increased by 40.2% to over 2.3 million contracts. An all-time record was achieved by IDEM Stock Futures contracts, with a growth of 378% in volumes and open interest rising by 83.2%.

The second half of the year appears to be confirming this trend, but let us wait until January to see the final results for the whole of 2005.

It is widely known that almost all operations on capital have an impact on the listed security and therefore also on the related derivative instruments. IDEMAGAZINE, on page 3 of this edition, summarises the most important operations announced by some of the companies included in the S&P/MIB and the relevant adjustment procedures.

In view of the high number of operations announced during the first few days of September, the summary table is proving to be an extremely useful tool.

Completing the September edition are the regular features: The Month’s News, The Month’s Statistics, Options Indicators, the Calendar and, for some light relief, the now traditional Cruci-der.
