Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Muhittin Esen, Financial Literacy and Inclusion Association (FODER) Founder Chairman Özlem Denizmen, FODER Vice Chairman Attila Köksal, Board Directors and numerous high school students participated in the opening-bell ceremony.
In his speech following the opening-bell ceremony, Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Muhittin Esen said that Global Money Week aims to inspire children and youth on conscious investment, saving, employment, and entrepreneurship; adding that improving financial literacy is important for strengthening awareness on saving and investment, and for the development of financial stability and the capital markets. Esen said, “In terms of maintaining financial welfare, rather than legal arrangements, it is more important to have investors that are sufficiently informed about financial products and concepts and that are aware enough to make preferences between financial risk and alternatives. Through the “Contribution to National Education Project”, Borsa İstanbul has provided funds amounting to TL 1.5 billion for education and has financed the construction of 432 education facilities, reaching 800 thousand students. A very significant step in strengthening financial literacy would be to have it included in the education curriculum”.
FODER Founder Chairman Özlem Denizmen said, “Global Money Week starts in 130 countries today. We are happy to be one of the more than 50 countries starting the Week with this opening-bell ceremony. Financial literacy is a basic parameter of sustainable development and growth. Children and youth are the most important building stones of a society. The awareness for saving, adopted at early ages, is an efficient seed for the future of the youth as well as our country. Considering its effectiveness, we believe that it is very important that the Global Money Week focuses on children and youth. A new generation that is aware of making intelligent savings is indispensible for an intelligent economy. As members, staff and volunteers of FODER, we carry out projects to help our children and youth adopt such awareness”.
Financial Literacy Education
