Bolsas y Mercados Españoles Trades Over € 150 Bn In February

  • In February trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 65.94 bn, 36.4% up on the same month in 2004.
  • Trading volume in all MEFF products followed an upward trend, posting 2.20 million contracts in February, 49% up on the same month last year.

In February the value of trading on all markets run by Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) exceeded € 150 bn

Equities

In February trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 65.94 million, which represents a year on year increase at 36.4%, bringing the total trading daily average to € 3.2 million in February.

During this month the number of transactions was 1.56 million, up 18.7% on the previous month and 30.1% up on February 2004.

Trading on the Latibex market, the market in euros for Latin American companies, exceeded € 38 million, which represents a 34% increase from the same month in 2004 and brings the trading daily average to over € 1.9 million, the highest value posted by the market.

The return on the IBEX 35 index in February was 1.81% bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to 3.42%. The return on the IBEX 35 with dividends in the same period was 4.09%. The return on the FTSE Latibex Top index in February was 12.19 % and its accumulated return since January was 14.44%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in February 2005 on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 189 million, which represents a 13.2% increase over the previous month and 25.4% up on the same month in 2004.

The value of trading from January exceeded € 356 million, 20.8% up on the same period in 2004.

Futures and options

Trading volume in all MEFF products followed an upward trend in February, posting 2.20 million contracts, 49% up on the same month last year.

It is worth mentioning the trading volume for options on the Ibex 35 index, which increased by 126% in relation to February 2004, posting 505,612 contracts. The value of trading in options on stocks was 938,966 contracts, 53% up on the same month in 2004.

Trading in futures also followed an upward trend for all products. It is worth mentioning the trading volume in futures on stocks, which increased by 40% in relation to the same month in 2004, posting 272,167 contracts. In February 2005 trading volume in IBEX Futures was 12% up on the same month in 2004, posting 405,312 contracts. Trading in Mini Ibex Futures was 86,296 contracts, slightly up on the same month in 2004.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in February reached € 62.89 bn, a 86.9 % increase compared to the same period last year. The accumulated value of trading in the first two months of 2005 was € 135.38 bn, double the figure for the same period last year.

New issues in February came in at € 29.30 bn, 34.4% up on the same month in 2004. The accumulated value of new issues was € 61.37 bn, 34.2% up on the last year.

The outstanding balance at the end of February was € 325.46 bn, 55.4% up on the same period in 2004.

SENAF

Trading volume on SENAF in February was € 21.68 bn and the accumulated value from January was € 49.80 bn.

SENAF’s market share of trading in all domestic trading platforms was 74.20% from January, slightly above last year’s average.
