BME Will Integrate Its Subsidiaries Into One Single Building - Bolsas y Mercados Españoles Buys An Office Complex For € 37.5 Million

Date 23/12/2005

Bolsas y Mercados Españoles has bought an office complex for €37.5 million with a view to centralising in one single business location the different subsidiaries which are now situated in different areas of Madrid.

It is a strategic step for the management of BME, which is intended to integrate the company’s human resources, achieve cost savings, facilitate the development of common services, consolidate its business culture and promote the unity of action.

The operation allows the implementation of a functional internal structure which maximizes efficiency in the use of human resources and facilitates communication and coordinated management. The staff will be assigned their places according to Corporate and Business Areas rather than resorting to a separation by subsidiaries. This will allow for greater integration, specialisation and identification of the staff with the company’s project.

The new organization will facilitate the synergies derived from the creation of BME, putting in place an integrated business management along for business areas: Equities, Derivatives Products, Fixed Income, Clearing and Settlement and the following Corporate Areas: Legal, Finance, IT, International and Human Resources.

Iberclear- the Central Securities Depository, MEFF-the futures market, AIAFthe fixed income market, Senaf - the public debt market, Sociedad de Bolsas and Infobolsa will move to the new facilities. The Stock Exchange old location, the Palacio de la Bolsa, will continue to be the corporate headquarters of BME and Bolsa de Madrid.

BME’s new organisation is thus created, it being equipped to answer the demands of its members and clients and anticipate the changes and challenges of a global environment, beyond the mere relocation of some companies.

BME has reshuffled its structure, which has enabled it to cut costs considerably. Regarding computer communications and IT, significant improvement have been made in systems linked to clients and members of different markets as well as in cost reductions and creation of synergies through the unification of suppliers, standardisation of systems and resource sharing between the different group’s subsidiaries.

In 2005 a new programme for harmonised human resources management has been designed and implemented, which can be used in all BME companies. The goal set is to achieve the maximum professional qualification and a high capacity for integration between the different teams in BME.

The business park, which is situated on the kilometer 16,500 of the A6 highway, in Madrid, comprises two buildings, both of which are equipped with top generation (intelligent) services.

Building A, which is fully renovated, has an office area of 6,100 square metres, with 400 square metres for warehouse use and 163 parking places on ground level. Building B is new, it has an office area of 5,000 square metres and 173 underground parking places.
