- Trading volume in all MEFF equity options and futures increased by 59% in comparison to the same month last year, to a total of 1,881 million contracts
Equities
In November trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to 1,3 million transactions, reaching a value of € 56.504 bn and posting respective year on year increases at 20% and 35%.
In the first 11 months of 2004 the value of share trading was € 586.51 bn, up 32% on the same period last year and 19% up on the whole year 2003.
Between January and November trading on Latibex reached € 336 million, a 31% increase over the same month in 2003. This figure exceeds by 19% the volume posted all through 2003.
The return on the IBEX 35 index in November was 3.26 %. The return on the IBEX 35 from January was 12.35 %, that on the IBEX 35 with dividends was 15.92 % and that on the FTSE Latibex Top index was 3.76%. This index posted an annual increase of 21.58%.
Warrants and Certificates
Trading volumes in November on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 206 million, which represents a 64% increase over the previous month in 2003 and a daily average volume of 9.8 million euros. Accumulated trading volume in 2004 exceeded € 1.75 bn million euros, 9 % up on the same period in 2003 and up 3.2 % on the total trading volume posted all through 2003.
Derivatives
Equity futures and options traded through MEFF in November 2004 came in at 1.881 million contracts, 59% up on the same month last year.
The number of open positions for the Ibex 35 futures contract hit a new record in November, with 73,124 contracts. Trading in this contract increased by 30% on the same month last year, posting 391,303 contracts.
Accumulated trading volume in futures on the Ibex 35 index and Mini Futures from January exceeded that posted all through 2003. Futures trading volume on the Ibex 35 increased by 24% to 4.004 million contracts. Trading in Mini Futures up to November was 1.003 million contracts , up 9 % on the same period last year.
Trading volume in equity futures was 268,018 contracts, up 92% on November 2003.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in November reached € 60.87 bn, a 64.7 % increase compared to the same period last year. Accumulated trading volumes posted in the first 11 months of the year was € 514.24 bn, 50.7 % up on the same period last year.
The increase in trading volume for short and medium term assets has been consistent with the trend seen this year, with ordinary bonds showing an annual growth of 500% in 2004 and colletarised debt such as Securitised Bonds and Mortgage Bonds, posting increases at over 100%.
New issues in November came in at € 26.308 bn. In the first 11 months of 2004 the accumulated volume of new issues was € 286.527 bn, 40.6% up on the last year.
The outstanding balance at the end of the month was € 89.633 bn, 43.7% up on the twelve preceding months.
SENAF
Trading volume on SENAF in November was € 38.74 bn, which represents an increase of 22.8% on the previous month. Accumulated trading volume up to November was € 370.712 million.
SENAF’s market share of all trading volume posted by the Spanish electronic trading platforms is 84.6%.
