BME: The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded €267.93 Billion To May

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange to the end of May was €267.93 billion, down 14.4% from the same period last year.  The trading volume in May was €48.12 billion, down 16.5% from April.

The number of trades to the end of May reached 17.2 million, down 16.4% from the same period last year. The number of trades in May was 3.2 million, down 18.8% from the previous month.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of May came in at €1.24 billion, up 50% from the same period last year. In May the trading volume came in at €329.6 million, up 46.7% from May 2012 and up 140% from the previous month of April.

The number of trades in ETFs to the end of May totaled 25,221, up 19.8% from the same period in 2012. In May the number of trades reached 4,908, down 0.9% from April 2013.

Futures and options

In May trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 3.4 million contracts, down 37% from the same period a year earlier.

The highest number of contracts corresponded to Options on Stocks, at 2.03 million contracts, although down 14.3% from the same month in 2012.

Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading so far in 2013 totaled 4,392. Activity on the market to the end of May totaled €337.6 million, down 9% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in May came in at €67.2 million, up 6.6% from April this year.

The number of trades to the end of May in this market totaled 80,188, down 15.3% from a year earlier. In May 14,714 trades were executed, a 19% decrease from the same month in 2012.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume in May on BME’s Corporate Debt market was €128.53 billion, down 8.7% from the same period last year, although trading to maturity grew 52.1%.

The number of trades registered on this market in May reached 290,943, the highest figure so far this year, which is more than 9 times as high as the figure for May 2012.

New issues in May reached €14.47 billion, down 16.5% from the same period last year. The outstanding balance at the end of May was €812.21 billion, down 8.6% from the same period a year earlier.

Trading in Public Debt on SENAF, BME’s wholesale trading platform, reached €5.63 billion, up 88% from the same period in 2012.
