BME Marks Financial Literacy Day With A Bell Ringing Ceremony

Date 05/10/2026

  • The event was held at the Palacio de la Bolsa in Madrid

Once again this year, BME is celebrating Financial Education Day with a bell-ringing ceremony at the Madrid Stock Exchange Palace. The event is part of the “Finanzas para Todos” initiative launched by the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness, and Enterprise, the CNMV, and the Bank of Spain.

The bell-ringing ceremony was led by Paula Conthe, Secretary General of the Treasury and International Finance, accompanied by Juan Flames, CEO of BME.

Paula Conthe, Secretary General of the Treasury and International Financing, emphasized that “It is important to remember that financial literacy not only enables us to make informed decisions, but also protects us and serves as a shield. Savings that are properly and responsibly managed can yield returns that benefit both the saver and the economy."

For his part, Juan Flames noted: "At BME, we are working hard to make financial education accessible to all citizens. It is essential to continue investing in this area, as recent reports highlight the need to improve our families’ financial literacy, starting at a very young age. And in this effort, we must not forget older adults, who also need the tools and knowledge necessary to make informed financial decisions throughout all stages of their lives.”

In addition to the traditional bell-ringing ceremony, BME is joining in the celebration of Financial Education Day with a variety of high-impact initiatives. Among them, the BME Institute will organize free webinars open to the general public. These online sessions, aimed at the general public, will cover the basics of saving, investing, and financial planning, and will demonstrate how these tools can help strengthen economic stability, achieve personal and family goals, and make more informed financial decisions throughout life.
