BM&F’s Chairman of the Board, Manoel Felix Cintra Neto, received on Thursday, May 24th, the “Person of the Year”, given by the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce of New York. Tom Glocer, president of the new conglomerate resulting from the merger of Reuters and Thomson, also received the award, representing the U.S. Every year the award is handed out to an American and a Brazilian personality who has stood out in the business community.
The award ceremony took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, in New York City. Government authorities representing Brazil and the United States, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and special guests of the American Chamber of Commerce and awardees were present at the reception.

CEO, Edemir Pinto; former Chairmen; BM&F directors; Brazilian
congressmen participating in a series of technical meetings in
the U.S.; Brazil’s Ambassador to the U.S., Antônio
Patriota; the abbot of the Mosteiro de São Bento, in São
Paulo, Dom Mathias Tolentino Braga; winners of previous “Person
of the Year” awards – entrepreneur Maurílio
Biagi and the president of the Vale do Rio Doce, Roger Agnelli
-; Brazil’s ex-President Fernando Henrique Cardoso; Minister
Hélio Costa, among others participated in the award ceremony.
Over 800 people attended the event, which includes dinner and
a gala ball.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent
Mr. Cintra Neto a congratulatory message on behalf of the award
and highlighted BM&F’s importance in the futures market
and the Country’s positive economic scenario.
