Individual investors had a 10.3% share of the volume of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) traded on BM&FBOVESPA in February.
Institutional investors had the largest share of traded volume, at 39.6% of the total, followed by foreign investors (29.6%), financial institutions (19.6%) and public and private sector companies (0.9%).
In February, quotas of the iShares Ibovespa Index Fund were the heaviest traded on BM&FBOVESPA. The BOVA11 code used in transactions represented 90.2% of the total volume handled in the seven ETFS available on the Exchange.
The second most-traded ETF in the month was PIBB11 (PIBB Fundo de Índice Brasil - 50 - Brasil Tracker), at 5.3% of the total volume.
ETFs around the world
Around the globe, investor are becoming increasingly interested in ETFs. Figures from the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) show that the available number of this type of investment grew from 3,277 in December 2008 to 3,957 in November 2009. ETFs are a simple alternative for diversifying investment into variable income. In a single transaction, the investor can buy a stock portfolio without having to manage each of its individual shares.
