BEST – Brazil Excellence in Securities Transactions has finished its first round of 2008 road shows gathering an audience of 310 investors. BEST in the Middle East and in Europe was held in Dubai, London, Luxembourg and Geneva and included official events and parallel meetings in those cities.
The list of speakers at the events included Mr. Paulo Valle, Deputy Secretary of the Brazilian National Treasury; Mr. Mario Torós, Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy of the Brazilian Central Bank; and Mr. Sergio Weguelin, Commissioner of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), as well as representatives from Brazilian private sector institutions. The seminars stimulated interesting debates between speakers and audience, mainly focusing on the Brazilian government’s fiscal and monetary policies , vehicles for non-resident investor participation in the Brazilian capital market, risk management of the clearings, the restructuring of the Brazilian exchanges and volatility of the Brazilian market, among other topics.
The BEST Brazil road shows began in 2004. By the end of 2007, 1,080 investors had participated in the BEST Brazil events, held in nine cities across North America, Europe and Asia.
BEST Brazil’s main purpose is to promote the Brazilian capital markets in the international investor community. It is a joint initiative of the Brazilian Mercantile & Futures Exchange (BM&F SA), the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BOVESPA), the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) and the National Association of Investment Banks (ANBID) and counts on the full support of the Brazilian National Treasury, the Brazilian Central Bank and the Brazilian Securities and Exchanges Commission.
The next 2008 BEST Brazil road shows will take place in North America. The events will be held in Toronto, Boston and New York and are scheduled for June 16, 17 and 19.
