The Bank of England has held several Inclusion Weeks and this year have supported Inclusive Employers, the organisation behind National Inclusion Week, with their theme of Everyday Inclusion.
To support this, and our Inclusion Strategy, we held events focusing on chairing inclusive meetings; workplace culture and values; and flexible working, among others. We heard from Dr Sam Friedman from the London School of Economics on social mobility following the publication of his book The Class Ceiling: Why it Pays to be Privileged. We also welcomed Pinky Lilani, founder of the annual Women of the Future Awards and the Asian Women of Achievement Awards, who talked about food, collaboration, kindness and authenticity as being the ingredients for personal and business success.
We shared our commitment to the inclusion agenda at the Inclusive Employers launch event at the House of Lords on Monday 23 September. Victoria Cleland, Executive Director Banking, Payments and Innovation, gave her insights on how we have developed our inclusion agenda and why we are so committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer. We also released the video below with Inclusive Employers at the beginning of the week where two of our Executive Directors shared their insights on inclusion and reflected on some of our achievements to date.
Continuing the theme of supporting the inclusion agenda across industry we were proud to host two events for the DiveIn Festival, a global movement to support the development of inclusive workplace cultures in the insurance industry. In early September we hosted the launch of the Festival at the Bank, where we heard from the Chairman of Lloyd’s and Caroline Casey, a disability activist and founder of the Valuable 500. A video highlighting the spectrum of diversity and inclusion at the Bank was released at the launch.
