Bahrain Financial Exchange Launch The Exchange Business Handbook - This Handbook Provides A Handy And Valuable Resource Into The Financial Exchange Industry

Date 26/05/2010

Bahrain Financial Exchange (BFX), the first multi-asset exchange in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, launched its official handbook leading up to launch of the exchange later this year. The handbook, which aims to raise the market’s knowledge and awareness of the financial exchange business, was launched at a media event held today at the BFX offices located at the Bahrain Financial Harbor.

The event was patronized by Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Baker, Executive Director of the Central Bank of Bahrain. Mr. Arshad Khan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the BFX, introduced the media to the handbook. Entitled “The Exchange Business: An insight”, this guide has been designed to provide a better understanding of financial exchange operations and infrastructure. The publication represents a leading initiative by the BFX to facilitate market understanding and development, and educate the emerging professionals working in the financial sector.

The handbook features valuable insights into the operational aspects of an exchange, the basics of trading, as well as a snapshot of the Islamic finance market with particular attention to the Sukuk market. It also includes a useful glossary of common terms.

“There are so many misconceptions related to the financial exchange business in this region,” said Mr. Khan. “A key aspect of our role as the first multi-asset class exchange in the Middle East is to simplify this complex field and educate the public on its unique benefits. I believe this book will accelerate the evolution of the financial exchange industry in the region, and I invite all interested individuals and professionals to get their copy and start getting to know the business of financial exchanges. The BFX has always given highest priority to the education and training and this book is another such step in this direction.”

The handbook will be distributed to financial organisations and educational institutions in the GCC free of charge. Hard copies will also be available at BFX offices, located on the 12th floor of the East Tower of Bahrain Financial Harbor. A pdf copy is also available for free download on the BFX’s homepage, www.bfx.bh. An Arabic language version of the handbook is also due for imminent release.

Abdul Rahman Al Baker, Executive Director of the Central Bank of Bahrain elaborated:  “I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to introduce this detailed insight into the Exchange world which has been compiled with the purpose of providing the market with an understanding of the business of exchange operations. The handbook is full of essential information on multi asset market operations. The BFX will enhance the opportunity for the market participants in the region by providing a variety of investment and risk management solutions thus reinforcing Bahrain’s position as the financial centre of the region”.

The BFX is a wholly owned initiative of Financial Technologies Group (FT Group), which currently owns one of the world’s largest networks of 10 exchanges connecting fast-growing economies of Africa, Middle East, India and South East Asia.
