Today B3 launches its “Report or Explain for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” initiative. Starting this year, B3 will ask listed companies to disclose on an annual basis whether they publish sustainability or integrated reports taking the SDGs into account. If not, they will be asked to explain why not.
The 17 SDGs are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a document issued in 2015 by the United Nations (UN). This new agenda sets global sustainable development priorities and aspirations for 2030 and seeks to mobilize efforts around a common series of goals and targets.
B3’s initiative involves a partnership with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and will enable listed companies to understand the SDGs and gradually incorporate them into their business strategies. B3 will send them the request with a short electronic survey in the week beginning July 24, giving them until August 14 to return the completed form. The answers will be published on B3’s website starting in September.
After the research and data compilation process, workshops with GRI will be held to engage and train companies on the publication of sustainability or integrated reports taking the SDGs into account.
The aim of the initiative is aligned with B3’s role in developing and enhancing Brazil’s capital market by encouraging best practices in transparency and management on the part of listed companies by means of a range of different strategies.
