AZB & Partners and Kirkland & Ellis have emerged as the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in financial services sector during the first half (H1) of 2022 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that AZB & Partners achieved its leading position by value by advising on $68.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led by volume by advising on a total of 29 deals.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Global and Financial Services M&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables H1 2022’, shows that a total of 1,800 M&A deals worth $235.9 billion were announced in the sector during H1 2022.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Although Kirkland & Ellis led the league table in terms of volume, but it lagged in terms of value and could not feature in the top 10 list by value. On the other hand, AZB & Partners, despite advising on relatively lesser number of deals, managed to top by value due to its involvement in big-ticket deals. It advised on three billion-dollar deals (≥ $1 billion) that also included one mega deal valued more than $50 billion.”
GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Cravath Swaine & Moore occupied the second position by value by advising on $60.3 billion worth of deals, followed by Argus Partners, Singhi & Co and Wadia Ghandy, jointly occupying the third position with $58.5 billion.
Meanwhile, Willkie Farr & Gallagher occupied the second position in terms of volume with 26 deals, followed by Alston & Bird with 26 deals, Allen & Overy with 21 deals, and AZB & Partners with 18 deals.
