As of August 23 the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.79% in August, closing at 10174.41. Stock market indexes in Europe, Asia and globally was down in August, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes.
AUGUST 2010 Sector Winners and Losers
- In the U.S., the Dow Jones U.S. Health Care Index was the biggest winner in August, posting a 0.77% gain. The Dow Jones U.S. Financials Index posted the biggest loss, dropping 6.33%.
- In Europe, the Dow Jones Europe Health Care Index posted the biggest gain, climbing 2.44%. The Dow Jones Europe Financials Index had the sharpest decline, falling 5.71%.
- In Asia, the Dow Jones Asia/Pacific Utilities Index posted the biggest gain, rising 1.84%. The Dow Jones Asia/Pacific Technology Index posted the biggest loss, down 2.30%.
- Globally, the Dow Jones World Health Care Titans Index had the best performance, climbing 1.83%. The Dow Jones World Banks Titans Index posted the biggest loss, dropping 6.25%.
