9.8 million transactions were completed on Euronext’s cash markets in August. Over the first eight months of 2004, more than 94 million transactions were registered, slightly down 2.7% year-to-date compared to the same period of last year. This represents a daily average of 552,000 transactions.
Shares
9.4 million transactions were registered in shares during August, bringing the total number of transactions close to 90 million so far this year, slightly down on the same period of 2003, by 2.2%. Year-to-date the average daily number of transactions in shares amounted to 525,000.
Trackers
Transactions in trackers amounted to 17,500 during August, representing more than 1,100 per day. In the year-to-date there have been a total of 195,000 transactions in trackers.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded 54 million contracts in August 2004, up 9% on August 2003. Year-to-date Euronext.liffe has traded 549 million futures and option contracts, up 20% on the same period last year.
Individual equity products were up by 42% January to August 2004, trading over 20 million contracts in the month of August, up 19% on August 2003.
Euronext.liffe’s Eurodollar contract traded 290,438 contracts in August representing an average daily volume of 13,201. Open interest reached a record level during the month of over 105,000 contracts.
Commodity products traded their busiest August ever, trading over 670,000 futures and options contracts, up 36% on August 2003.
