ASX Trading Volumes

ASX today announced a new record for options contracts at more than 170,000 contracts. Trading in BHP/RIO/LHG dominated the options market with 33% or one third of the market trading in the three classes.

The previous record was 151,000 on August 28 last year, when AMP options accounted for around 16% of all trades (usually around 4%).

Equity trades numbered 98,000, which is the fifth busiest day on record.
