ASX Limited (ASX) announces its monthly trading information for cash and derivatives markets for October 2007. Trading activity across the group remained buoyant throughout October, although derivatives markets in particular were less volatile than in previous months.
Cash markets (including equities, interest rates and warrants trades):- Total cash markets trades for October 2007 were 7.1 million, the second-highest month ever, up 104% on the previous corresponding period (pcp). Average daily trades of 307,394 were 95% up on pcp.
- Total cash market traded value was $146.4 billion, up 47% on pcp, with a daily average value of $6.4 billion, up 40% on pcp.
- A monthly value record of $1.3 billion was traded on the warrants market in October 2007, up 0.7% on the previous record, comprising 80,714 warrants trades. This included a new daily warrants value record of $221.9 million traded on 24 October and a new daily record for number of warrants trades of 5,212 on 22 October.
- Total derivatives contracts volume (excluding equity options) for October 2007 was 5.8 million, down 8% on the pcp, with a notional value of $2.6 trillion. Average daily contracts during October 2007 of 250,113 were down 12% on pcp.
- Equity options volume for October was 2.2 million, up 15% on pcp with a daily average of 94,846, up 10% on pcp.
Listings and capital raisings:
In October 2007, 19 new entities1 were listed, compared to 24 in the pcp, bringing total listed entities to 2,143 (1,967 pcp). Total capital raised in the month amounted to $4.5 billion, down 2% on the pcp but up 70% on a year-to-date basis. This comprised $179 million in initial capital and $4.4 billion in secondary raisings.
