Date 23/04/2004

The Chairman of the Australian Stock Exchange, Mr Maurice Newman, announced today that following the unanimous decision of the ASX Board, Mr Tony D’Aloisio has accepted the position as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASX. This appointment will follow the retirement of Mr Richard Humphry. Mr D’Aloisio’s appointment is expected to take effect after the next scheduled Annual General Meeting of the ASX on 28 September 2004, but in any event will be no later than 1 November 2004. Mr Humphry has agreed to continue to serve as CEO until that date.

Mr D’Aloisio is currently (and has been for 13 years) the Chief Executive Partner of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, a major Australian legal firm with some 200 partners, 500 lawyers and 1200 other employees. It has offices in Australia’s main business centres, Hong Kong, Beijing and London.

“Tony D’Aloisio has had an outstanding record as Chief Executive. He is a highly regarded senior executive known for his commercial acumen and strategic thinking abilities.”

“He is also a respected business leader with excellent networks and business contacts. He is seen as a strong leader and has extensive experience in Asia which are important considerations for ASX”, Mr Newman said.

The Chairman also announced that Mr Colin Scully, the current Chief Operating Officer, has accepted the position of Deputy Chief Executive of ASX. Mr Scully’s appointment will be concurrent with Mr D’Aloisio’s.

Mr Newman said that ASX had been fortunate to secure Mr D’Aloisio’s services, which, when combined with the experience and expertise of Mr Scully and the senior team, would provide the continued management excellence which had delivered such outstanding results for shareholders under the leadership of Richard Humphry.

Mr D’Aloisio said he was delighted to accept the position as Managing Director of the ASX and congratulated Mr Richard Humphry for his outstanding efforts in helping the ASX to become a highly regarded world class stock exchange. He also said he was looking forward to working with Mr Colin Scully and the senior management team, and meeting ASX staff.
