ASIC chairman Greg Medcraft today announced that Commissioner Shane Tregillis is leaving ASIC to join the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) as Chief Ombudsman. The role is based in Melbourne.

The Financial Ombudsman Service provides accessible, fair and independent dispute resolution for consumers and financial service providers.

‘I want to wish Shane all the best and thank him for his service to ASIC,’ Mr Medcraft said.

‘As a Commissioner, Shane worked on some of ASIC’s most important projects through their most crucial times, including supervision of ASX following the successful transition to ASIC in August 2010, and now, competition in equity markets, where Shane led industry engagement, production of the Market Integrity Rules and development of the wider supervision framework.

‘Shane has long experience in the financial services sector and a real commitment to improving the lot of consumers and investors. He will make a superb Chief Ombudsman at FOS.’

Mr Tregillis rejoined ASIC in May 2010 after eight years with the Monetary Authority of Singapore where he was a Deputy Managing Director. Before that, he was a senior executive with ASIC.

Mr Tregillis finishes with ASIC on 26 August 2011.
