ASIC Appoints New Queensland Regional Commissioner

Date 26/10/2011

ASIC Chairman Mr Greg Medcraft today welcomed the appointment of ASIC Senior Executive Leader Brett Bassett as Queensland Regional Commissioner.

The Chairman also recognised the contribution of incumbent Dr Pamela Hanrahan, who returns to the Melbourne Law School at the beginning of December.

Mr Bassett was appointed Senior Executive Leader - Compliance and Deterrence as part of ASIC’s Real Economy team, in 2009.

‘Brett has made an invaluable contribution to a team committed to improving confidence in financial market integrity,’ Mr Medcraft said.

‘I’m confident Brett will continue to build on his work with ASIC to date and make a positive contribution as Regional Commissioner.’

Mr Bassett will commence in the role on 1 December 2011.

Dr Hanrahan joined ASIC in November 2008 as Senior Executive Leader, Investment Managers, with responsibility for regulation of Australia’s managed investments sector.

Dr Hanrahan was appointed Queensland Regional Commissioner in July 2010.

‘Pamela is a recognised legal expert in the field of managed investments and ASIC has been fortunate to have had her working with us for the last three years,’ Mr Medcraft said.

‘I would like to thank Pamela for her contribution and wish her all the best for the future.’

Prior to ASIC, Dr Hanrahan was Deputy Director of the Centre for Corporate Law and Securities Regulation at the University of Melbourne and, before that, a senior lawyer in private practice with Allens Arthur Robinson.
